Which new tricks exist for the interception of personal data?
Closely associated with the actual phishing, the fishing for passwords using fake eMails, there are constantly developing new methods of confidence tricks:
  • Personalized phishing means that with the personal data stolen in a first anonymous phishing attack in a second step the victims are addressed personally what increases the authenticity and makes the victims more willing to divulge further information. If the fraudsters manage in this way for example to steal PINs for credit or debit cards it is also possible to forge credit and debit cards.
  • A further development of the phishing is the pharming. Here the computer of the victim is manipulated by malware (for example virus, Trojan) that way that even when entering correctly a URL the fake webpage will always be accessed.
  • Another method has become known under the denomination "man in the middle attack". Here a hacker takes over the onlinebanking session of a bank client and realizes transactions himself.
  • Via malicious software not only keyboard inputs are registered for spying on access data ("keystroke logging") but there are already programs with which it is possible to follow the movements of the mouse pointer on the screen ("screen scraping") by which also inputs of the so called "virtual keyboards" can be recorded.
